Starwood Hotels beds down with mySAP HR

Starwood Hotels, which owns Sheraton, Westin and St. Regis, among other brands, recently installed mySAP Human Resources, with the help of Delphi Consultants. Approximately 200 disparate systems had to be converted and integrated for the installation. The hotel chain has plans to expand the installation to its corporate offices and reservation centers by January.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has called upon Delphi Consultants LLC to fluff the pillows on its human resources bed. The Dallas-based consultancy has installed mySAP Human Resources from SAP AG for 167 of the White Plains, N.Y.-based hotel chain, covering 43,300 employees.

Delphi combined and converted third-party payroll processors, mainly from Automatic Data Processing and Ceridian, to mySAP HR. The project began in June 1999, and the software is installed across the Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Four Points by Sheraton and W hotel brands. Starwood also received an independent review of the blueprint phase of the project from the SAP Platinum Consulting Group.

The first phase of the software rollout began in August 2000. Starwood has now begun implementing mySAP HR in its corporate offices in White Plains and Phoenix, as well as 15 other reservation centers and offices throughout the United States. The chain expects to complete this phase of the installation in January 2002.

Starwood chose mySAP to have a single, integrated human resources software program across its hotel and resort properties, according to Mike Morgan, vice president of corporate information systems, finance, for Starwood. Delphi was brought in to simplify the implementation.

Delphi converted and integrated 200 individual, nonstandard payroll systems into one process and system. Often, a Delphi team would work with five rollout groups, all in different phases of the implementation, Delphi said.
