Using CAD/RFC, DCOM or JCo for external applications

We use SAP v.4.0B and are looking at a custom interface to an external application. The external application is called "Teamcenter," which supports C/C++, Java or XML based approach for integration. We have also customized SAP to our requirements. We are evaluating the following approaches, CAD/RFC, DCOM or JCo.

Which is a better option? Do you know any specific advantages or disadvantages with the above approaches, or any specific situations where one of them is preferred against another? Any help here is much appreciated.

You are mixing two levels in your question. RFC is the basic communication protocol used by both DCOM and JCo. If you need synchronous communication then RFC calls in JCo are the best option. If you want asynchronous communication, use SAP Business Connector with IDocs.
