System Refresh 101

A System Refresh can be a helpful tool for developers and customizing consultants. Our expert, Bert Vanstechelman, outlines what this SAP term is and how it works.

Can I get a general outline about what a "system refresh" is? How is it performed? What are the precautionary measures that need to be done before doing a system refresh? What are the merits and demerits of a system refresh?
A system refresh is in most cases rebuilding the quality assurance or acceptance system from a backup of the productive system. As such, newer, more accurate test data is made available in the quality assurance system for the developers and customizing consultants to test their ongoing developments and roll-outs.

The procedure is explained in detail in the System Copy Guide for 6.40 SR1 which is available for download at the...

SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/instguides. It contains procedures for all databases supported by SAP and is therefore very interesting, even for environments running older SAP releases.
