Should I use SAP DCOM or wait for .NET?

Does SAP recommend using SAP DCOM to communicate with SAP from an external system? I used SAP DCOM on a couple of occasions to call BAPIs and custom RFCs to exchange information and it worked out fine but I don't hear much talk about DCOM and wondered if I should discard its use in the future?

Difficult question: The SAP DCOM Connector is still valid software, but Microsoft is pushing its .NET technology and SAP may sometime in the future offer a .NET connector to support this technology which would make the SAP DCOM Connector only the second best Microsoft-only SAP technology. If you want a multi-platform solution based on Java you should use the SAP Java Connector (JCo). Otherwise, using the SAP DCOM Connector is currently your best option.
