I have a fundamental question about Workflow: If I implement R/3, what will it take to implement Workflow function...
across multiple R/3 modules (e.g., MM, PP, EHS, SD, PM,...)? Will the Workflow function be module specific or is it more like a general function that applies to all modules?
Workflow is part of the SAP BASIS system. It is not specific to any particular Module of SAP. Depending on the way you design your Workflow, it may be able to be reused. However, I have found that in practice this is not always possible. Workflows are implemented for specific Business Processes (which could span multiple functional areas such as HR, MM, FI). Workflow is the 'glue' between all your SAP Modules.
