My company has been utilizing the SAP HR module for several years. We have recently started a data clean up process which was needed because of lack of naming standards for jobs, positions and organizations.
Are there any good white papers to help us with our naming conventions so that the org structures and reporting...
make sense across the company? Also, how do I force compliance through validations or drop down menus?
There is no white paper on naming conventions on organizational objects as it differs according to individual needs of the company. Typically, companies adopt job titles from salary surveys used for compensation analysis, use employee designations (with or without grades) as positions and actual department/division names as organization unit descriptions. It is important to use names which the business has already used or will be using on daily basis and not just a terminology used in SAP only, as this will cause confusion to the users when they analysis reports containing such terminologies.
There is no validation means for organization object names/descriptions as they are free-text fields. To control, companies usually centralize the task of creating organization objects. In addition, a supervisor might be tasked to monitor the names used if you have put in place an approval process.
