"Chief hats" are relationships between organizational units and positions. With this missing relationship, several issues may arise. Depending on how you are using SAP HR and the organizational structure, reporting could be significantly impacted. Workflow is another possible application function that could be impacted. If you use or plan to use SAP organizational structures to drive your Workflows, these relationships would need to be present, else they would need to be redefined in Workflow. One way or another, they'll need to be defined. Also, Career and Succession would be adversely impacted. There are reports for disaster recovery that could be used if the "Chief hats" are being used correctly. Several other functions that are lost when "Chief hats" are not used. I would suggest using them if at all possible. This would help make implementation of additional SAP functionality easier in the future or help improve/eliminate current issues.
