Capturing details from the BOM

We are in the process of writing an interface program to pass the details of configured materials (one or more levels of BOM) to create a Production Order. We have considered a number of ways to achieve the BOM explosion - either by using the function module CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2 or a transaction CS11. For the function module, we are not sure what parameters need to be provided and what we should be getting back - there appears to be a long list of import parameters. The transaction CS11 on the other hand seems to allow only one material at a time. We would appreciate any tips or suggestions on how best to capture the details from the building blocks within the BOM to pass within the interface program.

You should use the function module. To find out the parameters, you should debug a transaction that uses the function module, and look at the values used in the call.
