Currently we work in 4.0B and we'll soon upgrade to 4.6C. Someone keeps telling me that CATS (Cross-Application Time Sheet) is absolutely independent of HR, so there is no need for any customizing, setup, master data or use of HR in order to be able to use CATS. Is it true? If not, what is the bare minimum I must have in HR to get CATS running for labor accounting purposes?
The CATS module is a completely separate module from HR; however, you will need to utilize HR related data in order to enter time and project information against an employee and cost this to Plant Maintenance, Service Management or Project Systems.
I would suggest at a bare minimum Master Data (Personnel Administration). This is because Personnel Administration is where you capture employee name, SSN and address. This also gives you the capability to default project related information and cost centers utilzing infotype 315, making it easier for data entry. The infotypes you will want to implement are (0000, 0001, 0002, 0007 and 0315 at a minimum.)
If HR is a future consideration I would strongly recommend you do not use mock SSN's or Personnel Numbers as the conversion in the future is much more cumbersome and you would essentially need to delete all personnel information and start over from the beginning.
