ALV defined

What is an ALV, and how does ALV work? Application development expert Matt Billingham answers.

What is an ALV, and how does ALV work?
There are two types of ALVs, or ABAP List Viewers. The first type uses classic list processing, while the second utilizes the grid control, with richer functionality.

The ALV allows you to gather your data, then just give it over to group classes to handle the output -- thus speeding up the development of reports.

See the BCALV_GRID* ABAPs for examples.
