SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions are preconfigured applications that allow companies to deploy the software in weeks for a set price. The applications are designed to be "one slice or a chunk" of SAP AG's larger enterprise applications, and address a specific function or need.
One of the most common perceptions about SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions (RDS) is that the software and implementation packages are one-size-fits-all applications. Many believe that RDS applications can get a company up and running quickly, but that they prevent companies from differentiating themselves in that specific area.
That perception is wrong, according to Steven Birdsall, senior vice president of SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions.
“Rapid Deployment Solutions were never intended to be 100% of what every customer wants in every scenario and every industry,” Birdsall said recently at the 2012 SAP TechEd conference in Las Vegas.
In this video, Birdsall addresses those misperceptions, saying that RDS applications are designed to meet about 60% to 70% of what a customer needs -- beyond which the customer can customize and tailor it to address unique requirements.
