Given the foundational nature of Basis, it's a safe bet that there will be decent opportunities in this sector, given SAP's vast installed base. If you're interested in an SAP Basis job, you should learn whether Basis certification is really necessary; since Basis certification can be a big investment, it pays to do your research here. If you decide to go for certification, here is a list of sample Basis interview questions. You might be able to build a career in Basis even if your primary experience is in Basis support, or if you are an SAP authorization expert.
If you want to start a Basis career, know that there are several options. One path is to leverage your familiarity with Basis support to move into consulting. However, there are circumstances under which you might want to stay put in Basis functional support. If your Basis skills are out of date, consider instead a career in another module, such as SAP CRM. Some experts feel that anyone with Basis skills would also do well to improve his Java skills, especially given the ascendancy of NetWeaver.
