System/user-specific ActiveX settings

System/user-specific ActiveX settings

Whether an input-help is displayed as search help control or an R/3 dialog box is determined by the F4 help system/user-specific ActiveX settings in menu "Help->Settings", tabstrip "F4 Help", sections "Display". Users can either reference the client-specific system defaults, use the ActiveX search help control, or use the traditional R/3 dialog box.

The user-specific ActiveX settings are stored as user parameter "F4METHOD", value "ActiveX" or "NoActiveX", in the profile of each user. The system references the client-specific defaults, if the user parameter is missing in a user profile.

The client-specific system defaults are stored as user parameter "F4GMETHOD", same values as parameter "F4METHOD", in the profile of user "SAP*". The ActiveX search help control is used, if the user parameter is missing yet again in the profile of user "SAP*".

User parameters are stored in database table USR05. Should it be required to replicate these settings from one system to another then transport the corresponding table entries between the two systems. Should it become necessary to reset the ActiveX settings of all users then delete the corresponding entries from the table.

Class "CL_F4CUSTOM" contains the methods used to maintained the F4 Help settings.

This has been tested in R/3 Release 4.6C.
