Save/move SAP security profiles

Save/move SAP security profiles

A quick way to save an existing profile to preserve it before a major modification as a backup is to use the "Download" feature from the drop down menu at the top of the PFCG screen (4.6C). This feature allows you to easily store the current profile to a file. If you need to resort back to the original for any reason, you then use the "Upload" feature in the menu.

Additionally, I sometimes use these features to easily and quickly move profiles (that I think are questionable in terms of success) from my security development client to a test client in another system for testing by a test team to insure the profile satifies all requirements before actually creating a transport otherwise, sometimes you will need to create multiple transports if you don't get the access right the first few times (transports take a bit more time to generate and they will go nowhere but to the testing environment if the access is not correct).

Thanks to the consultant that passed me this tip a while back, it has been useful. I now pass it on to others that might benefit from it.
