Limit your Max Extent size

Limit your Max Extent size

Want to limit your Max Extent size? Use the init<SID>.dba file to add the parameter max_next_size ###M (where ### is the max size you want your extents to expand to).

Once you have changed this, run db13 sapdba -next (next extent) which will force all next extents above this size to reduce back to the max you have set in the parameter. This will also force any new extents to expand up to this level required to only reach this highwater mark. (note: if you set this too low you may find you are getting to many extents increasing rapidly, such as 300/550. In that case you may need to expand your size limit somewhat. This can be done online - test with your development system to gauge the effects.
