Here's a SAP screen that will tell you a lot of information about your database:
Transaction DB02 => SPACE STATISTICS => TABLES => OK => HISTORY => ALL OBJECTS ON/OFF => MONTHS
Whew! Okay, now click on the numerical entry under SIZE TOTAL, then click the SORT button - you've just located your largest database tables! A great beginning to an Archive project. Just jump into DB15 to locate which archive objects go with those big old tables.
Now double click on that monsterous table - see how it's growing every month? Wouldn't your management love to see the growth patterns of your largest tables? You know they would!
Now arrow back. This time sort on the numerical entry of EXTENTS TOTAL - look at all those tables that are reaching their maximum extent limits - why isn't your DBA reorganizing those tables!? If he did you would see an increase in performance! And while he's at it have him look up which table indicies need reorganizing also - everyone knows that inserts/deletes mess up b-tree index balancing, and that running an index optimizer process (like update statistics) will only help so much. Table and Index reorganizations can be easily done through the SAPDBA utility.
There ya go - do some simple database maintenance and watch your performance go up! Have fun SAPin'...
