Learn the response to the final question in SearchSAP.com's exclusive XI quiz. Read the answer and more detailed information on XI and how it relates to ESA.

15. Which statement holds true for SAP XI?

a) XI will be needed to exchange data between R/3 and legacy systems
b) It can replace the SAP Business Connector
c) It will replace IDocs and ALE
d) It enables SAP for the Enterprise Service Bus

ANSWER: B

SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) is one of many middleware software suites available on the market. XI basically receives messages, interprets the messages and starts a predefined workflow. Currently XI does not intrinsically adhere to the Enterprise Service Bus with its Event Driven Architecture, therefore does XI neither enable nor it is necessary to ESA compatibility of SAP R/3.
