SAP is adding job scheduling and monitoring features to its SAP NetWeaver integration and development platform.

SAP is making it easier to coordinate both SAP and non-SAP jobs in a correct sequence.
Mike Schiff,
vice president of data warehousing and business intelligence, Current Analysis

In an announcement Wednesday, SAP said the new features allow customers and partners to manage any SAP application using the NetWeaver platform.

The features were co-developed with Morrisville, N.C.-based Redwood Software Inc., a maker of job scheduling tools and Web-based reporting tools that support SAP.

The software integrates SAP and non-SAP applications through automated workload and process management from a single console. The software communicates directly with SAP systems and has a standard interface that allows users to manage all versions of SAP, including SAP R/3, mySAP ERP and SAP NetWeaver.

The software also provides an environment to manage and integrate SAP and non-SAP jobs and production workload monitoring. Redwood Software's front-end functionality runs natively within SAP Enterprise Portal.

While the new features are not groundbreaking, these changes show SAP is recognizing that many of its customers run applications from third-party vendors, said Mike Schiff, vice president of data warehousing and business intelligence at Sterling, Va.-based Current Analysis.

"Jobs are dependent on each other and must run in a certain sequence," Schiff said. "SAP is making it easier to coordinate both SAP and non-SAP jobs in a correct sequence."

SAP said it is working with Redwood to develop new features and open interfaces that can be used on the NetWeaver platform.

SAP certified Redwood Software's features in October. SAP also certified the company's Java-based, event-driven process management software late last year.
