SAP will shut down its third-party support subsidiary TomorrowNow and move hundreds of customers back to Oracle or other support.

The software giant said today that it will "wind down" operations at TomorrowNow, a third-party support provider it purchased in February of 2005 . But the end of TomorrowNow doesn't mean an end to the copyright theft lawsuit Oracle filed against the SAP subsidiary in March, 2007, an SAP spokesman said. The ERP rivals are set to meet in October in a settlement conference.

"We looked into a number of options, including selling TomorrowNow," an SAP spokesman said. "But it would have been an extremely complex transaction for both seller and buyer."

All 225 TomorrowNow customers will be moved back to Oracle support or other third-party support by Oct. 31, according to a statement issued this morning. The third-party support provider provides cheaper maintenance for PeopleSoft, JDEdwards and Siebel applications.

SAP will be contacting all TomorrowNow customers to help them choose the best option.

"Our goal is to assist our customers in transitioning to a new support provider, including Oracle, without disruption to their support during the wind-down process," Mark White, TomorrowNow executive chairman, said in a press release.
