SAP has been making lots of news on the ESA (enterprise services architecture) and SOA (service oriented architecture) fronts. SearchSAP.com interviewed Scott Campbell, co-author of the new book Mastering Enterprise SOA with SAP NetWeaver and mySAP ERP. Released in October, 2006, the book explores the fundamentals of enterprise SOA, identifies the main considerations for successful deployments, and reviews the many relevant tools and technologies in SAP NetWeaver. In this interview, Campbell, SAP Practice Manager with Austin, Tex.-based MomentumSI, a consulting organization specializing in SOA, addresses:

  • Common issues with SOA deployments
  • Best practices and advice for SOA projects
  • Why it's a good time to be in the SAP jobs market

  Program highlights

  • (3:58) Can you offer any best practices or guidance for developing ESA roadmaps?

  • (6:20) What is 'applistructure'?

  • (8:00) How long will it take SOA to be the primary architectural approach employed by companies?

  • (8:58) Do you find a large ripple effect in technology trends?

  • (9:50) Why do business people need to be involved in IT projects?

  • (10:44) What is the best way to create bridges between IT executives and business people?

  • (11:55) What is your outlook on SAP jobs, in general? Any advice for how SAP professionals can best progress from the R/3 environment to NetWeaver?
