SAP plans to support a new technology by Cisco Systems Inc. that would foster data integration in computer networks with equipment that links data to software applications.
Cisco launched its new technology today called Application Oriented Networking (AON) at its annual North American Networkers 2005 Conference. The new technology acts as a translator, allowing the integration of various software languages used by applications on the network.
Tibco Software and IBM also plan to build products that support the new technology.
Cisco said the components it builds using the technology will add application awareness to the network.
In addition to management software for the new technology, Cisco said it plans to launch several products this year including a blade for a Cisco 6500 Series switch to perform XML message processing, and a device that manages data from wireless and radio frequency identification (RFID) devices.
