SAP is launching more than 100 industry-specific analytic applications using its composite application model that merges data from SAP and non-SAP applications.

We're delivering a new level of speed to customers looking to draw information out of their enterprise systems.
Bill Wohl,
spokesman, SAP

Called SAP Analytics, the new products are aimed at 25 industries and pull information from across various systems using business intelligence queries. SAP said each application plays a role in supply chain management, customer relationship management and product lifecycle management.

SAP is bolstering its analytics technologies on the heels of positive first-quarter financials. Analysts expected poorer results after SAP was outbid for retail software maker Retek, by rival Oracle Corp. SAP reported strong earnings and a gain in market share against Oracle in the United States.

SAP highlighted several of the products at its international conference, Sapphire '05, in Copenhagen, Denmark, including SAP Analytics for retail, SAP Analytics for credit management and SAP Analytics for CRM.

SAP Analytics for retail gathers data on trade promotions and other retail-specific business functions. SAP Analytics for credit management enables financial service firms to display customers' credit information, buying behavior, past purchases and credit lines in the historical context of data stored in SAP and non-SAP systems, or syndicated data sources such as Dun & Bradstreet.

"We're delivering a new level of speed to customers looking to draw information out of their enterprise systems and present them in a fashion in what we think will rewrite the direction of the analytic space," SAP spokesman Bill Wohl said Tuesday during a conference call with the press.

Some of the new products will be sold with other SAP applications. SAP Analytics for CRM will be part of the mySAP CRM suite and help collect data on marketing, lead generation, pipeline visibility, sales effectiveness and individual customer views.

Macromedia technology extended

SAP said its new products are model-driven, code-free and services-enabled. The user interface supports Macromedia Flex technology, which was extended to SAP applications through SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer.

In a separate announcement Tuesday, SAP said the Macromedia Flex application framework allows developers to create richer interfaces for SAP software.

The next release of SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer will include Flex technology and will be made available to all existing SAP NetWeaver customers.
