Thank the Academy for Oscar.com

Ellen O'Brien, News Editor

Only 17 voting days remain before the start of the 75th Academy Awards, and that means it's time to make your picks and nail down all your Oscar-related trivia. After all, you must have something to talk about at the Oscar parties besides the fact that the three-layer dip needs more cilantro.

Do you know how much Oscar weighs? A petite 8.5 pounds without shoes.

Who has more Oscars on their shelves than any other winner? That would be Walt Disney, the company.

In 2000, where did 55 statuettes go? They went out and got trashed -- 52 were recovered nine days later in a Los Angeles dumpster.

Fascinating factoids such as these, and a whole lot more, are available on the Web site sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, www.oscar.com.

Steve The Jerk Martin will be the humorous host of Tinseltown's biggest shindig. That means he'll be the one making the traditional jokes about the evening having stretched on longer than Gangs of New York.

Of course, red-carpet fashion memories are available for viewing on the Web site, too (minus Joan and Melissa Rivers). So if you somehow missed Bjork doing her swan thing at the 73rd Academy Awards, you can see her online, all "fowled" up in snow-white feathers.

Fashion memories like that are proof that the line between nostalgia and nausea is quite thin.

Oscar.com also gives you odds on potential winners, and a possible leg up in the party pool.

Just keep in mind that Chicago is probably Oscar's kind of town.
