New certified SAP hosts
E-business solution provider SAP Public Sector and Education, Inc., a subsidiary of SAP America, Inc. and SAP AG, has certified Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) and ea consulting inc. as SAPHosting Partners.
With these certifications, SAP hopes to increase opportunities for federal agencies, governments, utilities, and school districts to get implementation and support for hosted solutions and the technical infrastructure for mySAP.com solutions. CSC and ea consulting each offer public sector entities an alternative to managing mySAP.com solutions in-house.
The announcement came at the SAP Public Sector and Education e-government symposium. Also at that forum, the company unveiled a new solution for public sector tax and revenue agencies. The new tool aims to streamline an enterprise's core tax and revenue management businesses processes and enable customers and employees to conduct financial transactions and view information appropriate to their respective responsibilities.
SAP makes acquisition move
SAP Public Sector and Education is also in the process of acquiring Procurement Automation Institute (PAI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Digital Systems International. PAI offers a family of electronic procurement products that includes PAI*IPRO, an automated procurement package currently used by more than 20 federal, state, and local agencies.
PAI*IPRO provides the contract writing capabilities necessary to support a paperless e-procurement strategy for public sector customers. SAP feels PAI*IPRO complements the mySAP Purchasing solution because it was built with the premise that no two procurement operations are alike.

Andersen to increase SAP-trained consultants
Andersen Consulting, which will be renamed Accenture in 2001, is extending its global alliance with SAP AG to bring Web-based solutions to the federal, state and local government and higher education markets. Andersen will significantly expand the number of consultants serving governments and institutions of higher education, who are trained and experienced on SAP enterprise business solutions.
The two organizations already have a long-standing working relationship in the commercial sector, as evidenced by the $389.9 million business systems modernization contract recently awarded to Andersen by the Defense Logistics Agency, where SAP will lie at the core of the solution.
