QUESTION POSED ON: 09 July 2004
I have worked towards the user end in a Japanese MNC having manufacturing facility in India Polyester Intermediate. My total functional experience is 6 Years. Since I was already using an SAP environment, I thought of pursuing a career in SAP. Completed a certification is SAP MM on 30th April 04.

But now I am finding it difficult to find an SAP consultancy job. No scope in my Company. Everywhere people are looking for guys having done at least 1 full life cycle implementation.

It's been more than a month. Can you guide/advise me suitable?

One thing I don't know from your email is just how deep your SAP skills are. It sounds like you have some hands-on experience, not just an MM certification, but I can't be sure based on your description. It seems like you may simply be an SAP user, however, and not an "implementor," and that may be your problem. You may need to go back to your company and try to obtain more bona-fide configuration skills on your current project to beef up your certification. The cycle of "needing experience to get experience" is a tough one to break nowadays. Those that do break it usually require the help of their current employer, where they should have built up enough credibility and connections to get access to new skills on their current project. If I were you, I would take a harder look at the hands-on skills you lack and see if there is any way to obtain them while working for your current company. Then, revisit the job market after you have been through an upgrade cycle. If you can't get a break from your current employer, you might need to find a non-SAP role at a new company and try again. Just make sure that the company that hires you is using SAP, so that you have a chance of transitioning into an implementation role down the line after you prove yourself.
