ANSWERED October 2009:
JSPM is just an interface for SDM and all the processing is done through SDM. Through JSPM we can import both single support patch and SAP support package stacks. We can also apply kernel through JSPM. Through SDM, we can only deploy a single patch, and can't deploy all of the support packs.
