QUESTION POSED ON: 02 February 2009
I have participated in projects in which I upgraded from SAP BW 3.5 to NetWeaver BI 7.0. In these projects, the only objects we migrated from Business Content were the queries. We didn't change the data flow (i.e., update rules or transfer rules) or create a data transfer process (DTP).

However, I notice that in other projects some folks are also migrating the data flow for Business Content. I thought that we shouldn't change anything in Business Content because SAP is responsible. Is this correct, or do we have the capability to change the Business Content on our own?

SAP provides Business Content to speed up the development process and reduce the possibility of errors since most of the objects, business rules and the application integration are predefined. This predefined Business Content can and should be changed to meet client-specific requirements.

The concept is the same when it comes to migrating Business Content from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0. But whether the content should be migrated depends on client needs.
