Our company is deploying SAP CRM and SAP ECC. Which is a better application for entering sales orders? Is SAP CRM robust enough for EDI sales orders? Can sales orders be modified in CRM if created in ECC and vice versa?

It is hard to decide on the order entry lead system without having specific business details. It is recommended that you use CRM as the lead system and enter sales in SAP CRM if your company receives the bulk of their sales orders via the telephone (IC WebClient) and web channel (e-commerce); however, the orders have to be uploaded to the back-end system for fulfillment.

There are several order scenarios possible between SAP ECC and CRM. In essence, it is possible to edit sales orders created in ECC in CRM and vice versa.
