QUESTION POSED ON: 07 July 2008
I have completed my MBA and worked in a non-IT field for a year. I have already studied ABAP, FI/CO and MM, and now I want to move on to study NetWeaver. Would this be good for me?

Please mind that NetWeaver is the full suite with the ABAP and Java stack included. There are very few applications running on Java, which is -- contrary to bad rumors in the market -- not strategic. Enterprise Portal is a niche product that requires some Java know-how, but nothing more. I see no business for newcomers in this declining market. For self-learning go to sdn.sap.com and download the Java suite and EP trials.

SAP's XI is middleware and needs special architectural knowledge unless you would like to continue mapping and writing Java adapters. BI is a future market, especially if you add knowledge of Business Objects.

Since you know ABAP and already some functional modules I advise you to add SD knowledge and then start as an ABAP developer for the Supply Chain Management block. That is a very good market and with a shortage of developers to boot.
