QUESTION POSED ON: 03 July 2008
I have been working with ABAP at a multinational corporation for the past two years and would like to learn SAP BI. When I do this should I also learn SAP BW? Will there be any advantages to learning BI as an ABAP consultant?

EXPERT RESPONSE
SAP BI and BW are the same. SAP has changed the name SAP BW to BI since version 7.0. There are many changes from the prior versions, mainly in the information retrieval and data extraction areas. Additional tools and functionalities are available with SAP BI 7.0. Learning BI as an ABAP consultant is definitely advantageous, since a good amount of ABAP coding is necessary in SAP BI.
