QUESTION POSED ON: 29 May 2007
We have installed Solution Manager, but the dispatcher does not show up. Furthermore, the log shows that this function is working perfectly. What could be the problem?

EXPERT RESPONSE
It is difficult to judge without the log file entries. Did you look in the other developer traces? Is anything else complaining? Does SAP even attempt to start the work processes?

Problems with the dispatcher are often caused by inconsistencies in the SAP parameter settings. Verify that the SAP 'start' and 'instance' profiles do not have inconsistencies and then investigate the memory settings. The hostname should also match the system name. At start-up, SAP attempts to connect to the local host using TCP/IP. Network settings and system names should be consistent. Also, verify if SAP is able to connect to the database. The developer traces should contain string 'db connect ok' if they can.
