The IDoc format is a plain ASCII file with a certain structure. In order to see what an IDoc looks like, have a look in tables EDIDC (header) and EDID4 (data). Every IDoc consists of one header record, followed by the data records. More about technical implementation of IDocs can be found in the book SAP R/3 Guide to Interfaces.
