QUESTION POSED ON: 11 January 2005 The City of Tacoma, WA., USA is looking for a way to keep users who run the Employee List (RPLMIT00), Payroll Journal (PC00_M10_CLJN) or any other report which provides a column showing the Social Security Number (PERSIDNO) from seeing this information without creating a custom report. We know that we can change the layout to eliminate the column, but how do we keep them from just changing it back to show the Social Security Number? With identity theft and individual privacy being what it is, it is extremely important that this information only be available on a need-to-know basis.

I'm not sure what version you are on, but I just took a look at a 4.6 system and I do not see an exit or a BAdI that would do what you want. That being said, you could always add a method that verified the security of the user before allowing them to change the layout of the report. This would qualify as a modification but it is a realistic solution to your issue. You could also try an OSS note and see if you can get SAP to cooperate with you on developing a solution as it could be mutually beneficial.
