I am wondering what your thought is regarding the prospect of SAP banking. I had been in the financial industry for more than 10 years (management auditor, risk management, head of a branch). In May 1999, I took the TeamSAP Academy CO course and became certified. Yet, I couldn't get into the SAP world until September of last year, when I landed a job mainly as the SME (business analyst) of the cost allocation sub-project of a performance measurement project in a bank. Should I concentrate on SAP Banking and pursue a SAP Banking project? Thank you very much and best regards.

SAP Banking is a very narrow niche. SAP does have some financial services projects, but you're not guaranteed a lot of project choices in that area. The golden rule for developing a SAP niche is: "go where the work is." Obviously, with your extensive financial services background, a SAP Banking niche could really work for you. If you find yourself landing relevant projects, then you can build on that niche with additional training. On the other hand, if SAP Banking projects are hard to come by, you may be faced with a choice between continuing your banking career and pursuing SAP. At that point, your choice will come down to your longer term goals and also the skill areas you most want to pursue. In closing, I have known only a couple of consultants who have succeeded in a SAP Banking niche. It can be done, but make sure the project work is there before you commit.
