QUESTION POSED ON: 13 October 2004 I have been working with a new SAP implementation at the company I am with. I have taken on the role of security administrator. I really like working with SAP and want to continue expanding and growing. Should I try to get with a consulting firm?

There's an art to knowing when you have enough skills to move into a consulting role. Based on the limited details you provided me, there's no way of saying whether you have the skills to make that move yet. Generally speaking, you need at least two years of hardcore SAP security experience to be eligible for consulting roles; but don't take my word for it, you may need more than that. The only way to find out for sure is to go out and apply for positions and see what kinds of contract or consulting offers you get. Until then, the best you can do is to keep beefing up your skills and learn as much as you can about SAP systems.
