This is an interesting question and one that I get quite frequently. If I was running my own business and was considering bringing in an SAP BW developer, the most appropriate thing to ask in an interview would be, "How many SAP implementations have you been a part of?" Nothing acts as a substitute for hands-on experience -- this is far and away the best indicator of capability.
After that I might ask some less critical questions, such as what their experience was with ABAP or their favorite color.
