QUESTION POSED BY: jeo@sembmarine.com on 19 February 2003

I bought your latest book on Basis administration and find it very interesting. I am doing a database system copy. My sap is 4.6C & RDMS is MSSQL7, central & database instance is on the same machine. In your book page 296 onwards cover the topic, I followed the tasks listed but in the SAP installation part it requested for the EXPORT CDs. How exactly do I bypass the Database creation as I have restored the source SysID database on the target machine prior to the SAP installation?

>

First of all thank you for purchasing my new book. If you have already restored the source database into the target system, you can simply perform a Central Instance installation. This will not then re-initialize the database. The R/3 setup will takes just a few minutes to complete. By the way, if you are subscribed to the SAP Professional Journal you might want to keep an eye on the May/June 2003 volume later on because I wrote an article about Database System Copy Automation.
