SAP Business ByDesign

Contributor(s): Todd Morrison

SAP Business ByDesign is a cloud-based ERP system designed for the middle and upper range of the SME market, as well as for subsidiaries of large enterprises in a two-tier ERP scenario.  It includes integrated components for financials, marketing, sales, services, human resources, manufacturing, planning and control of the supply chain, strategic and operational purchasing, and compliance, according to SAP. SAP Business ByDesign originally debuted in September of 2007.

SAP Business ByDesign has been running on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform since February 2014, meaning that both the database and all of the applications now run on the SAP HANA in-memory database.

Billing is based on a pricing model, according to SAP, which entails a fixed price for installation, and an additional fee per user, which covers items like service, maintenance, hosting and support.

SAP Business ByDesign sits in the middle of SAP's other ERP software suites for the SME market.  SAP Business One is for the smaller end of the SME market, and is available in both an on-premise and on-demand model.  At the other end is SAP All-in-One, for the larger end of the SME market, and available on-premise.

This SAP video covers recent updates to Business ByDesign as of the spring of 2014.

This was last updated in August 2014
