What is APO?

Get tips for understanding advanced planning and optimization (APO) in an SAP context.

What is APO? How does this help with SAP?
If you don't know APO, I don't know where you've been all these years. APO stands for advanced planning and optimization, and was originally a supply chain component of R/3 that was introduced by SAP at the turn of the century (Okay, that was only a few years ago). Today, APO is part of SAP SCM, which also includes Inventory Collaboration Hub (ICH) and Event Management (EM). Planning and optimization are essential for running efficient supply chains, avoiding excessive inventory, and providing faster time to market for the delivery of finished products.
