How can I use the value of the variable in the selection parameter (user input) in creating a formula?

You can do so with a replacement path variable, where you incorporate the user input value to be incorporated into the calculated key figure formula. For instance, by allowing a user to enter an interest rate on the query selection screen, that will be used as an operand.
