Using a BAPI in JCo, the data in the database isn't updated. Why?

While reading data from SAP database using JCo, a reader invoked BAPIs and RFCs, but the database simply wouldn't update. Application development expert Matt Billingham sheds some light on what's going on in this article.

I am using SAP Java connector. While reading data from SAP database, I am invoking a BAPI or an RFC, and now I have to update or modify the SAP database. In this case, how should I do this? I am trying it using a BAPI but the data in the SAP database is not being updated.

Example: for reading data I am invoking BAPI_COMPANYCODE_GETDETAIL, and for updating data I am invoking BAPI_COMPANY_RENAME,...

or have tried with BAPI_COMPANY_Change. Can you suggest any other ways of modifying a value in a SAP database?

Try following your BAPI call with a call to BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT.
