Risky to transport between systems at different support pack levels?

Read about the risks associated with transporting between systems at different support pack levels in SAP.

What are the risks of transporting between systems at different support pack levels?
As an example, your development system is running a higher support package level then your acceptance and/or production. If an ABAP developer creates or modifies a function which uses functionality (pieces of code) brought into the system by a support package which is not available in the acceptance or production system, this function is no longer going to work after it has been transported to those systems.
