QA tech starting a Basis career without administration experience

I have experience in QA, but I would like to get into a Basis career. Can I learn Basis without System Administration and DBA experience?

Yes, you can learn Basis without a system admin and DBA background, but remember that you would be starting from scratch against many senior technical resources. If you are truly passionate about Basis, then by all means, give it a shot, but keep in mind that your QA skills would be more relevant to an SAP functional career.

I think you'd have a better chance breaking into SAP functional consulting than technical. If you have a passion for Basis, then you need to do some more homework before you proceed in that area. Remember that Basis is really transitioning into NetWeaver. If you really want to become an SAP system admin, start by looking into the latest technology, which means putting Basis talk behind you and getting into the NetWeaver terminology.
