Path to become an SAP functional consultant

How can a software development person who knows .NET emerge as a functional consultant? Srini Katta makes some suggestions.

I am a pure software development person with expertise in .Net (C#, VB.Net, Web services etc.). What would be the best SAP career path for me to gradually emerge as a functional consultant? I definitely have a flair for business domain and confident about grasping it quickly.
  1. You are a right candidate to look into the Duet because of your extensive experience in .net technologies. This would give an opportunity to find out what is under the hood.
  2. I would suggest picking up ABAP technology, which is still the predominant language in SAP landscape.
  3. Start developing a road map on how to become a functional consultant based on your business domain experience.
