Leveraging ABAP skills

How to leverage ABAP skills by using WebDynpro

I am an ABAP developer with 1.3 years of experience. I would like to get training or do a self-study on BI or XI, which I heard was good with an ABAP skill set. My basic knowledge of Java is nil when it comes to the prerequisites of XI. What should I do?
If you are mainly a developer, then I would suggest pursuing WebDynpro as a nice niche market. BI is only interesting now in combination with Business Objects and Crystal Reports. Classical BI development is already overloaded with consultants and would also require you to have substantial business knowhow. XI is middleware, which is not what you really want to do: mapping, mapping, mapping... WebDynpro for ABAP sounds like a good market these days and easy to get into for an ABAP guy.
