Learning ABAP or sticking with Java/VB focus

I have an opportunity to join our SAP team and learn ABAP. My background is in VB and Java. What's your take on the matter?

I would go for it. Hands-on project exposure is always a good thing, and the mix of Java, ABAP, and VB gives you broader skills and also more relevance to your overall enterprise development environment. I don't know that I'd want to see you drop VB and Java completely, but I like the mix.
