Is it still a good idea to start a Basis career?

I am working as an IT professional and I want to start a career in SAP as a technical consultant. I want to go for SAP Basis administration.

I am trying to get training but I can't find any suitable school or institute. I spoke with one person for SAP Basis training and he advised me to go for CRM or NetWeaver training rather than Basis because I would have a harder time finding a job in Basis. I am confused because I am not from management and it's very hard for me to go for CRM or PP. Is it true that there is programming involved in NetWeaver training?

To start your career as a Basis consultant you should have a solid technical background. Since you already work as a technical professional, opting for SAP Basis as a career is better for you than the other recommendations. It is not necessary for a Basis consultant to know ABAP (a programming language in SAP). Please try help.sap.com to learn more.
