SAPGUI is actually the client or front-end program installed on the users' PCs to be able to connect to SAP servers. SAP is a client-server application.

SAPGUI, by the way, is available for the Windows environment (SAPGUI for Win32), for Linux, Unix, MAC (SAPGUI for Java) and for HTML, which requires SAP ITS on the back end. SAPGUI for HTML is actually "SAPGUI-less" because there's nothing to install on the PC. It uses an Internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer). SAPGUI has add-on components that let you work with different SAP software solutions such as Business Warehouse, Advanced Planner and Optimizer, Customer Relationship Management, etc.
