Implementing SAP BW before R/3

We will have to implement SAP BW along with SAP R/3. Our team is new to SAP implementations and the timeframe is very tight. My question is if it's possible to implement BW without having finishing implementing R/3?

Yes, you can implement R/3 and BW in parallel, but I am not a big fan of this approach from the experiences I have faced/heard. I would rather prefer to start BW sometimes during the Business Blueprint phase of the R/3 implementation and would go live after R/3 go-live. On the other hand, if the coordination and knowledge exchange between R/3 and BW teams is very powerful and R/3 implementation does not require mass master data changes and business process reengineering activities, BW and R/3 can be implemented in parallel.
