How to output ABAP information into a flat file

How can I output ABAP information into a flat file? Application development expert Matt Billingham explains.

We need to be able to programmatically invoke an ABAP program from outside SAPGUI, perhaps using the RFC interface. We would like to automatically save the output of the ABAP program to a flat file for later import into an Access database. Do you know of any references to help us accomplish this?
Either make the ABAP program create the flat file, and perhaps FTP it to where you need it (using the appropriate FTP function modules), or the RFC call could return a table containing the information you require, which your calling program could then put into a flat file.

Perhaps the best solution would be to make the RFC call from within Access, and put the returned information directly...

into tables.
